Learning French is not the same as speaking it

WHEN STUDYING IS NOT ENOUGH

You can learn French and still struggle to speak it

Many people learn French the way they were taught at school: through rules, exercises, memorisation, and the idea that speaking will come later. Even when you are just starting, it is easy to believe this is still the right way to learn. Yet it often leads to the same frustration: learning French without feeling truly able to speak it with confidence.

That is why how you learn French matters.

THE SPEAK TO LEARN FRENCH© METHOD

At Facile Comme Bonjour, the traditional way of learning French is turned upside down by placing 100% of the focus on speaking.

Speaking is the centre of the process, because that is where real confidence, real progress, and real French begin.

That is why the Speak to Learn French© Method is built on three essential pillars.

THE SPEAK TO LEARN FRENCH© METHOD

I created these three pillars out of frustration.

For years, I kept seeing women come to me saying the same thing: “I know so much French, but I still can’t speak it,” or “I’ve always wanted to learn French, but it feels so difficult.”

It became impossible to ignore what was missing. Women did not need more study. They needed a way of learning that would finally help them speak.

Speak First

Mistakes Are Required

Ditch the Textbooks

In the traditional way of learning French, speaking often comes last.

I do the opposite.

I believe speaking must be part of the learning from the very beginning, because that is how you start building real speaking ability, not just knowledge about the language.

The brain learns through use. The more French is retrieved, spoken, and practised in context, the more those speaking pathways begin to strengthen.

Speaking early also helps you build the right habits from the start: clearer pronunciation, a stronger sense of how French is structured, quicker access to what you know, and greater confidence in real conversation.

That is why you do not need to wait until you know enough. You need to start speaking French from the beginning.

You may have been taught to see mistakes as something negative, something to avoid if you want to speak French well.

I do the opposite.

Mistakes are part of the process of becoming a speaker.

When you speak, try, and make mistakes, you learn through real use of the language.

Mistakes show you what to adjust, what to repeat, and what is already starting to take shape. They help you build confidence, flexibility, and ease in the language.

And that is how speaking French starts to feel less intimidating and more natural.

Many people teach French through textbooks, rules, grammar and written exercises.

I do the opposite.

You cannot develop speaking skills by reading a book, because there are certain skills that can only be built when you actually speak the language.

Skills like learning to respond, keep a conversation going, stay with the flow of French, use what you know in the moment, and stop translating all the time are developed through speaking. Very often, these are the exact skills that are missing when it is time to speak French with confidence.

This is how you go from being a learner to becoming a confident speaker.

SPEAK FRENCH WITH CONFIDENCE

When you can finally speak French

When you speak French with confidence, everything changes.

You can order with ease, continue conversations naturally, make meaningful connections, immerse yourself more deeply in the culture, and experience France as more than a visitor.

You begin to connect more deeply with people, feel more at ease each time you return to France, and experience the country in a way that feels far more personal and real.

My Mission

My mission is to change the way women learn French so they can finally become confident French speakers.

Too many women have spent years studying French without ever becoming confident speakers. Not because they are incapable, and not because French is too difficult, but because they were taught to hold back, wait, overthink, and chase perfection before speaking.

I believe that has to change.

That is why I created the Speak to Learn French© Method.

At Facile Comme Bonjour, I lead a different way of learning French through this philosophy. It is the foundation behind everything I do and the way I help women stop keeping French in their heads and start using it in real conversation. By putting speaking at the centre from the very beginning, this approach helps women build confidence through action, guided practice, and consistent use of the language.

After more than 16 years of coaching French, I have seen one thing again and again: real progress happens when women are given permission to speak before they feel perfect, and support to grow in confidence as they go.

That is why my work is about far more than French itself. It is about helping women trust themselves, express themselves, and finally step into the version of themselves who can speak French with confidence.

I do not believe French should feel intimidating, reserved, or out of reach. I believe it should feel alive, practical, and deeply possible for every woman who is ready to do it differently.

Through my sessions, programs, and immersive experiences, my mission is to give women a new path. One that changes not only how they learn French, but how they see themselves while speaking it.

I am not here to help women only learn French. I am here to help them speak French with confidence.

At Facile Comme Bonjour, I have created a French-speaking path that is designed to guide women step by step into the language with more clarity, confidence, and real speaking ability.

Each part has its purpose. Nothing is there by chance. The order matters because confident French speaking is not built in one moment. It is built through the right support, the right guidance, and the right next step at the right time.

Coucou, I am Anne Morel

I was born in New Caledonia, and part of my family on my mother’s side is from Tahiti, sso French and the French island way of life have always been deeply part of who I am. More than 25 years ago, I moved to Melbourne, Australia, on my own, and this is where I still live today with my husband, our two children, and our two dogs.

I have always loved the French language, French culture, and everything that makes France feel so special. I love French champagne (too much!), I never say no to trying a beautiful croissant in Melbourne, and I enjoy working closely with French businesses here in Australia. I also love creating events and experiences that bring French people, French culture, and my students together in real life.

At school, I learned Spanish, and now I am also learning Italian myself, with the same strong belief that speaking is such an important part of learning a language.

Outside of French, I love gardening, crochet, slow mornings on my deck, travelling, and spending precious time with my family. I also love meeting other French people here in Australia and finding every chance I can to keep speaking French in my everyday life.

Facile Comme Bonjour is not only my work. It is a big part of my world, and I love sharing that world with the women I guide in French.
